About Us

Upper Explorerland Regional Planning Commission (UERPC) offers local governments a variety of technical assistance on land use planning, zoning, sub-division regulations, and local government financing. UERPC also assists cities in updating their city code of ordinances as required by state regulations. Our staff can provide information on historic preservation, recreation planning, downtown revitalization, and urban renewal special taxation districts. Among local governments, UERPC is perhaps best known for its success in securing and administering state and federal funds for local infrastructure improvements and community facilities projects.

Using a variety of grants, loans and local financing tools, our staff also helps create an exciting environment where local governments become active partners in developing and preserving quality, affordable housing. UERPC provides planning and administrative assistance to communities and counties in their efforts to address local housing needs. Housing rehabilitation, adaptive reuse of existing structures, and new housing developments are some of the opportunities assisted through UERPC. Housing needs assessments can also be conducted to better determine local housing demand.

Since its creation, UERPC has become recognized as an ideal vehicle for addressing planning issues that require a regional perspective. Cities and counties benefit from our staff’s assistance in their efforts to promote community and economic development, improve the Region’s housing stock and meet the transportation needs of the area. With our office centrally located in Postville, UERPC’s professional staff is available to assist local officials and concerned citizens to explore ways to make their communities a better place to live.
