Upper Explorerland Regional Planning Commission (UERPC) was awarded the Youth CareerConnect Grant (YCC) in Allamakee, Chickasaw, Clayton, Delaware, Dubuque, Fayette, Howard and Winneshiek Counties. Participating juniors will select a two year pathway in one of the five designated H-1B industries, take college credit courses and participate in an array of work based learning opportunities, all while on course to receive their high school diplomas. Through the participants’ junior and senior year of high school, they will receive individualized career counseling to better prepare and equip students with the skills needed in post-secondary life. The grant aims at bringing high schools, colleges, and various businesses together to redesign the high school experience.

The regional Transportation Advisory Group has worked with EARL Public Transit and Upper Explorerland to plan a regional Transportation Summit on October 18th at NICC (Calmar). NICC is a partner for the event and has provided the Wilder Business Center location, and funds were granted by ITC to assist with planning and implementation. Two keynote speakers and 9 best practice speakers will shed light on transportation concerns and solutions for NE Iowa. We invite regional stakeholders in economic development, transportation, workforce, tourism, education, non-profit/services, and recreation to attend the event to engage in a discussion of how transportation supports economic development and quality of life for area residents.
