The Iowa Department of Transportation (IDOT) invites members of the public to attend an informational meeting regarding the proposed improvements on the Iowa 9 (Black Hawk) bridge. The meeting will be on July 9, 2019 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Kee High School, 569 Center Street in Lansing. Details of the proposed project will be presented and Iowa DOT and consultant representatives will be available to discuss the project informally. Interested individuals are encouraged to attend to express their views and ask questions about the proposed project. The meeting room is accessible for persons with disabilities. Regional Transportation Board and Committees to meet Thursday, May 30 in Postville

The next RPA-1 Transportation Policy Board meeting will be held on Thursday, May 30th, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at UERPC’s Postville Office (134 West Greene Street). The Enhancement Committee and Technical Committee will meet beforehand at 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., respectively. The Policy Board will be discussing and considering revisions to its bylaws, as well as considering and possibly approving the Transportaiton Planning Work Program (TPWP) for state fiscal year 2020. There will also be a public hearing regarding a proposed amendment to the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) for federal fiscal year 2019, followed by consideration and possible action by the Policy Board. All RPA-1 Board and Committee meetings are open to the public.

Public invited to community meetings for 5-county Long-Range Transportation Plan Upper Explorerland Regional Planning Commission (UERPC) has begun development of an update to the Long-Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) for the region consisting of Allamakee, Clayton, Fayette, Howard, and Winneshiek Counties in northeast Iowa. The Iowa Department of Transportation requires that our region’s LRTP be updated every five years. The current plan was adopted by the Upper Explorerland Transportation Policy Board in March of 2014. The LRTP has a 20-year planning horizon and is intended to guide transportation investments in the five-county region in support of a transportation system that is safe for all modes and users, and that facilitates the efficient movement of people and goods. Iowa Safe Routes to School Annual Meeting

The Iowa Safe Routes to School meeting will take place on January 24, 2014 from 8:30-10:00 at the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines. We will have two guest speakers and the theme of our meeting will focus on the best practices for building walking school bus programs. Our first speakers, Pam Hoogerwerf, Director for Community Outreach and Injury Prevention University of Iowa Children’s Hospital and Dr. Cara Hamann, a postdoc and injury epidemiologist for the Injury Prevention Research Center at the University of Iowa College of Public Health. Pam and Dr. Hamann will discuss their upcoming project, Pedal PORTAL pilot, a naturalistic bicycling study conducted in Iowa that utilized GPS-enabled helmet cameras to capture the bicycling experience of children and adults. SHPO Workshops Available in October

The State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) will be presenting two day-long workshops in October.  One on How to Apply for the State Tax Credit program on October 17 and How to Complete a National Register of Historic Places Nomination on October 18, 2013.  The workshops will be held in the Heritage Classrooms, first floor, in the Historical Building, 600 E.
